Ampacimon to Present Research on AI-Based Line Rating at CIGRE SEERC 2025

Ampacimon is pleased to announce its participation in the 5th CIGRE South East European Regional Council (SEERC) Conference, taking place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, June 4-5, 2025. The conference will focus on innovative technologies and methodologies that support the decarbonization and digitalization of electric power systems—an area where Ampacimon continues to contribute through advanced grid monitoring solutions.

As part of the technical program, Ampacimon will present a paper on Dynamic Line Rating (DLR), introducing a new approach that combines machine learning with local wind measurements to improve line rating forecasting. The research explores how wind data collected from critical spans of overhead lines can be extrapolated to adjacent spans with similar environmental characteristic. This method, referred to as line rating extrapolation, reduces the number of sensors required while maintaining high accuracy in real-time capacity assessments.

The study is based on field data collected over a full year and demonstrates how AI-enhanced DLR systems can help utilities better manage increasing and variable power flows—especially in low wind conditions, which are critical for conductor cooling. By improving the scalability and cost-efficiency of DLR systems, this approach supports more flexible and sustainable grid operations.
