Ampacimon at XX ERIAC: Presenting AI Innovation in Partial Discharge Monitoring

Ampacimon is excited to participate in the 20th Ibero-American Regional CIGRE Meeting (XX ERIAC), taking place from May 25–29, 2025, in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay. As part of the Study Committee B1 – Insulated Cables, we will present a technical paper co-authored with Red Eléctrica and Elewit. This paper introduces a cutting-edge AI platform for Partial Discharge Monitoring, developed and validated in real-world transmission environments.

Real-world results from AI-driven grid diagnostics

Our presentation will focus on how artificial intelligence is transforming Partial Discharge Monitoring from a manual, expert-driven process into a scalable, real-time solution. The platform continuously analyzes data from over 390 sensors deployed across 29 substations in Spain. It detects, classifies, and prioritizes PD events with high accuracy, enabling predictive maintenance and reducing operational risk.

The paper highlights several key outcomes, including the successful identification of 78 PD events—among them, a critical internal cavity defect in a 220 kV GIS substation. This event was not only detected early but also precisely located using synchronized portable sensors, allowing for timely intervention and avoiding costly failure.

A scalable, secure, and smarter approach to grid health

Partial Discharge Monitoring is essential for maintaining the integrity of high-voltage assets such as cables, GIS, and transformers. Ampacimon’s AI-based platform enhances this process by reducing false positives, improving diagnostic consistency, and enabling real-time alerting.

The system is hardware-agnostic, compatible with HFCT and UHF sensors, and can be deployed both on-premises and in the cloud. Secure data transmission is ensured through encrypted IPsec tunnels. According to the roadmap outlined in the paper, the platform is expected to scale to 2,773 sensors across 391 substations by 2028, covering 450 circuits.

Join us in Paraguay

Ampacimon’s presentation at XX ERIAC 2025 will offer a deep dive into the technical architecture, field deployment, and future roadmap of our AI-based Partial Discharge Monitoring platform. We look forward to connecting with industry peers, sharing insights, and contributing to the advancement of predictive maintenance in power transmission.

If you're attending XX ERIAC, don’t miss this opportunity to learn how AI is reshaping grid diagnostics—and how Ampacimon is leading the way.
