How can Ampacimon improve large integration of renewable energies in the electrical network?

The electrical grid faces a tremendous challenge for the years to come: to integrate massive renewable energy production. As a result the inter-region transport of electricity shall increase significantly. Ampacimon is participating with ELIA in the European TWENTIES project to connect wind farms to the grid while continuing to safely manage the highly loaded lines between regions.

The European Union has set ambitious goals for the next decades towards clean, renewable energy productions (RES). The massive connection of mainly wind turbines that shall be installed decentralized, both on-shore and off-shore, will induce much higher and intermittent loads between the regions. As a result the complete electrical network will have to be redesigned.

Considering the difficulties to construct new lines, it is obvious that Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) is a key technology to increase the capacity of the existing lines.

Ampacimon, installed on the critical spans of the highly loaded lines is the perfectly safe system to ensure that the thermal limits of the lines will never be exceeded while allowing a maximum of RES productions to be connected to the existing network.
