CIGRE – Guide for DLR

As many TSOs and associations worldwide, CIGRE has showed in the last months an increasing interest for real-time monitoring of overhead lines.

This interest recently resulted in the publication of the Brochure n°498 « Guide for application of direct real-time monitoring systems ».

The intends is to supply TSOs with relevant information and best practice recommendations for the implementation of Dynamic Line Rating in their networks.

Vibration analysis is obviously part of the content together with other technologies.

Concrete case studies and advices on acceptable error margin are also discussed.

This brochure is a must read for any TSOs thinking about implementing real-time monitoring systems.

Study Day : Dynamic Line Rating for Active Network Management
14 June 2012 – Brussels

Dynamic line rating is a must for the next decade and has to be more deeply understood. That is the reason why AIM (Electrical Engineers Association of the Montefiore Institute) decided to organize such a study day to widely inform about that technology, its actual implementations and the results obtained so far.

Ampacimon has been invited to share its technology and experiences at this event.

This study day was a great success with about 60 participants mainly from Europe and USA. They heard speakers from Elia, Red Electrica de Espana, MRSK, ENTSO-e, CIGRE, Smarter Grid Solutions, Nexans, Siemens, Alstom and Ampacimon.

It was the first occasion to present a short tutorial on the very recently released CIGRE Brochure n°498 about « Guide for application of direct real-time monitoring systems » and share experiences with leading TSOs, Industrials and Academics.

All participants discovered that the DLR is now a mature technology and requested the event to be hold yearly.

Dynamic Line Rating has become nowadays a very interesting way for TSOs to increase their network capacity and integrate more renewable energy sources.
Elia and RTE, the first TSOs to have implemented Ampacimon sets in live operation, published last November in T&D World an article on the positive impact they found for their transmission networks using our revolutionary technology.

Signing new collaborations

Ampacimon has recently signed collaboration contracts with several TSOs for the supply of Ampacimon monitoring solutions.

Indeed 50 Hertz in Germany, National Grid in the UK and BC Hydro in Canada have decided to start Dynamic Line Rating pilot operations collaboration with Ampacimon.

After 3 years of extensive tests and pilot operation carried out with Elia and RTE, Ampacimon is happy to welcome these new TSOs to its customer base en-route to our objective of establish Dynamic Line Rating as a standard technology globally.
