CASE STUDY #3

Summer/winter load peak management

Facts:

The French Alps sky resort “La Clusaz” is fed by a single 150-kV line. In the winter season, load increases very strongly, while it is very low in summer.

Constraints:

To manage this load increase in winter, the grid operator faces a large investment for only a few months use.

Ampacimon solution:

Installing the Ampacimon solution on this line granted a 40% increase in capacity of the existing line, and allows smooth operation during winter load peaks.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

« Data supplied by the Ampacimon system are constantly taken into account by our dispatchers, not only during normal operational but even more during tense situations. Our grid’s true real time limitations are therefore properly monitored at all times. Thanks to this very efficient investment, Elia can regularly avoid or defer the use of very costly grid actions. »

Head of Operations – National Control Center
